What it is: The Alice@107.7 Battle of the Bands is an exciting opportunity for local bands to show what got and to compete to win some great cash, prizes and recognition as The Big Red Ball Charitable Foundation again teams up with Today's THV and Alice@107.7to present the THV Rock'n Kickball Carnival benefiting Hearts and Hooves. This is our fourth annual event and this year it will be bigger than ever as we include a great car show, Alice@107.7 and live music from the best local bands around! How can it be a Rock'n Kickball Carnival without great live music on the Budweiser Stage? Invite your friends and family out to cheer you on and help your band win and at the same time, know that you are helping raise money for a fantastic cause! There will be plenty of fun, games and activities for the whole family! How it works: First, local bands are asked to register online by clicking here. Each band that registers will be required to send a picture, a brief bio and an MP3 of the song that they would like to be judged on. Bands are also recommended to send a link to their Myspace page. Registration will be open until May 9th. All bands are reminded that this is a family friendly event. All bands that apply will be evaluated by planning committee members to make sure that they are suitable, fit with the overall theme of the event and are of a suitable level of quality. At that point, the ten most suitable bands will be allowed to compete in the first stage of the event. Bands that are accepted to compete will be presented on the website along their picture, bio and their song and beginning 12:00am on May 11th, online voting will be opened to all! After being reviewed by listeners, each listener will be allowed to vote via the internet for their favorite band. All online voting will happen until midnight May 21, 2008. The top 5 vote getters based on online votes, will then advance to the live competition to be held May 31st at Interstate Park. A sixth band will be selected as an extra or fill in band, should a band not be able to compete. Bands will be assigned time slots based on the total number of votes received with the highest vote earner getting the headline slot. At the live event, bands will be allowed to perform one 45 minute set. Again, all bands are reminded that this is a family event and that no profanity will be allowed during their sets and all music is to be suitable for all audiences including children. Slots will be scheduled at 1:00pm, 2:30pm, 4:00pm, 5:30pm, and 7:00pm on May 31, 2008.
At this point, prizes include a trophy, 50 screen printed band t-shirts from Section 8, a professionally done 3 x 8 band banner and 100 vinyl band stickers from Altura Graphics, gift certificates, event t-shirts, $500 cash, the possibility of playing an engagement at a local and participating venue, and the possibility of having an original song played on Alice @ 107.7 (Alice @107.7 will play a suitable song at their choosing.) A winner will be announced that evening after the last band at approximately 8pm. A second band will win the judge’s choice and receive lesser prizes.
